Any support for changing monitor settings?

I was using a WinXP computer a while ago with a i945 and noticed it could mess with the monitor's settings directly, i.e. changing brightness/contrast etc. from the driver control panel. This is a desktop monitor BTW, not a laptop.

I thought that was pretty neat. Is it/will it be possible to do under X? I tried using xbacklight, but it only tells me it's not supported.

Ignore. I didn't see that you want to change the monitor's settings, not the graphic card's.
