I have an x700 mobility quite slow using composite desktop. Changing desktops takes about 3 seconds with a single firefox session. Maximizing an iconified firefox takes about 2 seconds.
I have been running nearly every release of the driver and overall performance is pretty decent. Direct rendering works, etc. Scrolling, video, 3d games etc. are decent.
But compiz-fusion/xcompmgr just sucks and has always sucked. Is this a 3d or 2d problem? Or is my card just not fast enough? What kind of performance should i be getting (no fps, please. Just qualitive performance)?
The opensource 'ati' driver works EXACTLY the same WRT composite performance. Is this right?
I run debian unstable, 2.6.25, openbox:
Relevant xorg.conf:
