Yes this works according to valve, although they do not give any support on thath kind of use.

Just add your thirdparty game to steam and start ot using steam as any other game.

Second thing ill test is my wii emulator

I suppose VCE on Windows don't use OpenMAX so code Valve done for Windows useless for Linux FOSS drivers users. No idea why Michael cite it at all.

I doubt that Valve use OpenMAX for the Foss Drivers. Valve target the Nvidia and AMD Blob.

            Right

            I don't think you'll be able to use 4K or 3D.
A small recycled netbook do the job, for multimedia and now gaming

Maybe some of you want infos concerning performances...

            Host : Pentium G860 - Nvidia 660GTX - Opensuse 13.1 - Full HD
            Client : core i3 - Intel HD - Ubuntu 14.04 - Full HD

            Good points :
            All games are running
Civ 5 -> perfect and smooth
Left 4 dead -> very good quality, small latency (~100ms) some effects increase latency (gaz, fires etc.) and degrade the quality
But the system adapts well to reduce latency, you can see the details lowering automatically when needed. Then the quality increase automatically, this works nicely.

            Bad points :
On all games the sound is played... on the server! So no sound on my TV
Metro LL -> average video quality, high latency (500+ ms) as it is a fps it is not really playable

I use a PLC so my network only has 4.5MB/s bandwidth, this could be a bottleneck
I will test games in lower res (720p) and 1Gb network this weekend

Overall I really like this concept and for a first beta, it works very well.

This is because you didn't connect your audio-out to your LAN, don't forget to adjust your router accordingly

p.s. sound works fine on my linux clients using in-home streaming. Maybe something to see in your logfiles?

I have tried it a while ago (about two months), with a Windows host and a Linux client, using a Gigabit Ethernet connection between the PCs (going through a switch), and the client set to quality and outputting at 1080P (maximum available for my screens).

Latency was measured by the client (or host, can't remember exactly which of them had to be configured to do it) as ~0.03ms (there's an overlay you can add via the configuration options that shows a few bits of information about the connection).

I have tried playing Borderlands 2 over that link. It went amazing, and I didn't really feel it lagging, either for mouse/keyboard input or for screen output (I had the host PC behind the client PC, the images were pretty much in sync with each other).

1080P over Wifi (N, but limited to 72Mbps) is just impossible (tried it with Truck Simulator 2), video stalled all the time, and audio goes completely out of sync. Not that I expected anything else, to be honest...

I haven't tried 720p over WiFi (not really interested, to be honest), or any resolution over PLC (which I do have available). I would assume PLC adds a bit of latency, though, from what I've seen on general latency tests for the medium. Shouldn't be too bad, however.

                Hope this helps.

Also, @Passso: if I remember correctly, you can specify where you want your sounds to be processed. Make sure you configure the host to also send audio, I don't think it's enabled by default.

                  Nice advice !

I followed your advice and put the green jack in the Netgear switch port 1, then the TV HDMI plugged on port 2 (I had to cut it on the side but now it can enter easily).
Now I perfectly hear a global war sound, constantly, at approx. 120Db. My ears are bloody but I really feel the "chaos experience" of Steam games.

                  Thank you so much !

Hahaha... I must have that to, will cut my HDMI cable for this awesome sound experience!

Ontopic: When streaming a game, the game itself is playing on your server while streaming image and sound to your client. In your case you have correctly set sound settings on your server, because you can hear it.

Did you check the configuration and or logfiles on the streaming-client? Easiest solution is selecting every sound option on the streaming-client until you hear something. I hope its just configuration and not a bug, a bug could take up to several week before Valve fixes it.
