At least one game already supports it, the most populair title on Steam. Also a bunch of AAA games are announce to support it on release day of their games.

But since it's going to get released in proprietary drivers, it's going to take a while before it's going to hit the sweet-spot with performance on new applications.

Isn't it the open-source drivers which are traditionally lacking performance? Not the proprietary ones.

Why do they keep hosting educational materials about vulkan that are of no use so frequently before vulkan's release? All talk, no release.

It is useless to try to understand a programming language or API at a moment where it is impossible for you to play with it and try what you are learning to experience it firsthand.

From what I have read they are finishing up the legal stuff... Maybe they are just trying to stay occupied.

After that they also said they are awaiting "availability of product quality implementations". They may want to have Dota2 Vulkan and Talos Principle Vulkan launch on day one for both Linux and windows with Intel/Nvidia/AMD drivers available for both operating systems.

Potentially that could also mean it's tied to AMDGPU?

Yeah, my current theory is that they want launch-day support for AMD on linux, which means the AMDGPU Catalyst drivers have to be out.

Which it sounds like is coming this spring. Michael was thinking it was tied to the Polaris launch, which i think people are expecting in June(ish) but maybe they could come out with at least preliminary support in March.
