Yes. It is lawful in France, for instance, to reverse engineer a product you own (with some restrictions).
It is also lawful to reimplement APIs....

I use XDP at work for extremely low latency filtering.
This is absolutely awesome, as it allows supported NICs to run the XDP program on the NIC...

The kernel still needs to decompress itself. Hence why it is needed in the kernel....

They should monitor the dirty block write count for the pendrive.
This is due to how Linux buffers writes....

I believe the main gain is for workloads that open and close a ton of files.
Like a find for instance....

Of course it is slower… it is unpaid volunteer work, and they don't have low-level access to documentation.
This is a clean room reimplementation...
