Phoronix: Intel "In-Field Scan" Coming With Sapphire Rapids As New Silicon Failure Testing Feature

Intel In-Field Scan is a hardware feature we have not heard the company talk about publicly until yesterday when they posted a new open-source Linux driver for this hardware failure testing feature being introduced with Sapphire Rapids processors...

Some Open Source related news Michael has chosen to ignore:
    • NVIDIA has been hacked and 75GB of data has already been leaked (including Windows drivers sources, unreleased hardware, firmware, encryption keys, etc)
    • Leaders in semiconductors, packaging, IP suppliers, foundries, and cloud service providers join forces to standardize chiplet ecosystem
Icons on Phoronix forums are still broken for European users. This was first reported weeks ago.

That is off topic but i hadn't heard about those demands that sounds more ideological than economic.
What icon are broken in the forum?

While the leak is definitely real and easily accessible, I didn't find information about any encryption keys in it. Got any sources of keys being leaked? This would be significant news.

At the risk of going further off topic... I don't think the open source community can actually do much with the Nvidia leak. They have to stay on the strictly legal side of things. So the category is more "hacker news" IMO.

              But that's very off-topic.

Maybe it's you who decided to ignore the article...

              Sadly, it's still the case...

Maybe nouveau could just outright f***ing die.

The mere existence of this leak would mean that everyone working on it (and anything else nvidia related) would need to document exactly where every insight and bit of code came from. Otherwise, there's a huge liability that they could be sued into the ground by nvidia at any moment for IP theft.

Remember the enormous amount of effort ReactOS had to go through formally verify that no leaked windows source code had made it into their OS? It stalled the whole project for a long time and they have considerably more manpower than nouveau. For the single-digit number of developers working on nouveau, this extra ass-covering is going to slow things down even more.

This wouldn't be the first time a massive amount of source code from a proprietary driver was leaked. It didn't work out nicely for PowerVR either. https://libv.livejournal.com/26972.html

None of this has anything to do with open source. So there is nothing being ignored.

It would be a hell of a lot better if NVIDIA just outright fcking died, but not before the Mellanox assets were jettisoned.
