Phoronix: Systemd 243 Is Getting Buttoned Up For Release With New Features & Fixes

While it would have been nice seeing this next systemd release sooner due to the Zen 2 + RdRand issue with systemd yielding an unbootable system (that is now also being worked around with a BIOS upgrade), the systemd 243 release looks like it will take place in the near future...

Coincidentally, Phoronix servers are getting buttoned up for upcoming influx of trolls.

It's not being worked around, it's a faulty implementation being fixed.

The take away from the whole AMD RdRand / systemd problem is that it is good to have alternatives when things go wrong.

Except this is not a RDRAND/systemd problem. It's a RDRAND problem. Period. Read the fix' description, it clearly states it broke Windows software as well.
Back when Intel had the infamous FDIV bug, nobody even suggested software was expected to work around that. Because there was no firmware back then, Intel was expected to (and did) replace every faulty CPU.

It is still good to have an alternative...

Do you even understand what this problem is about? It's a hardware instruction, the fundamental unit of a computer program, not returning the expected result. There is no alternative to the basic building blocks not working as expected. Simply because trying to work around that, you'd be calling other building blocks, which in turn, you'd have to work around them possibly not working.

Yes I do know that it is hardware related and any sane init that doesn't try to be an OS by itself won't trigger it.
