  • Ryzen 4800h laptop with Radeon RX 5500M

So, my new AMD laptop came, specifically it is a MSI Bravo 17. Plus I swapped out the RAM for 64GB.

Anyway, Linux (Fedora 32) works well if you pci-stub the RX5500M and just rely on inbuilt graphics [edit: used to say drivers]. The problem is things hang with the discrete card enabled without 'nomodeset'.

Performance is great, I complied 5.7-rc6 to see if there was any change with the graphics situation, and its the quickest I've seen a kernel compile on a laptop (though that is probably not saying much). There was no change.

    Fun times.

Wow, that's an awesome laptop you got for yourself man. Do you use it for gaming too?

Is there really such a thing as an awesome laptop? It's just cheap and ok.

While the discrete graphics don't work it is useless for gaming. 5.8 made not difference. Though I'm not a gamer.
