  • Video decode hardware acceleration on Rembrandt has issues

I was wondering if there are other users here affected by the buggy video hardware decode on AMD Rembrandt platform.

My laptop is a Thinkpad T14s G3 with a 6800U CPU with integrated Radeon 680M, and one of the nice features of this platform is it's efficient power usage on low loads.

However, video hardware decode with vaapi is broken. I have it enabled on Chrome, and on every Youtube video I watch I have to skip back a few seconds every once in a while due to repeating frames.

There's a 6 month old issue open but it's clearly not a priority for AMD: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/issues/8044

I confess I'm a little disappointed going AMD. It's nice to have opensource implementations, but in this situation being opensource doesn't really help much.
Yes, I could use sofware video decoding like the mayans, but the power usage difference is significant.

There are other issues as well with random GPU crashes, specially when sharing screens on videocalls.

Are you guys just using SW decode or is this an isolated case?
