All four combinations of Ubuntu Linux were much faster than Nexenta CP2 RC2 even when both operating systems were using the GCC 4.2 compiler. It took 84 seconds to build PHP 5.2.9 on Nexenta but 51 seconds when using Ubuntu 32-bit and 46 seconds when using the 64-bit Linux kernel.

Encoding an audio from WAV to MP3 took roughly the same amount of time between Nexenta and Ubuntu 32-bit, however, Ubuntu 64-bit with both the Linux 2.6.24 and 2.6.30 kernels had took over 10% less time.

Ubuntu 64-bit was much faster than Ubuntu 32-bit and Nexenta CP2 RC2 when encoding a FLAC file. It took just under 8 seconds for Ubuntu 64-bit while Nexenta and Ubuntu 32-bit were both at around 11 seconds.
