For the computational benchmarks, upgrading from Linux 3.8 to Linux 3.10 yields less of an impact. This is expected unless there's any change in the CPUfreq/scaling driver or power management improvements. GCC 4.8 over GCC 4.7 yielded little change in performance even with the "-march=native" CFLAGS/CXXFLAGS.
