When tossing John The Ripper at the quad-core Ivy Bridge desktop processor, the Intel Core i7 3960X with its greater number of cores was leading the race. Surprisingly, for this cryptography benchmark, the AMD FX-8150 Eight-Core Bulldozer was rather favorable and actually came just in front of the i7-3770K at stock speeds. This was a very rare win in the testing of Ivy Bridge where the AMD Bulldozer was even competitive.

With the CPU-based TTSIOD 3D Renderer, the Intel Core i7 3960X did better with its greater number of threads, but the Core i7 3770K did better than the i5-2500K by 44% at stock speeds.

For the VP8 libvpx video encoding, the i7-3770K oddly lost out to the Core i5 2500K at stock speeds by a small margin, but when overclocked to 4.30GHz the Ivy Bridge processor even beat out the Sandy Bridge Extreme.
