For this reference look at the Mesa gains since the days of Ubuntu 14.10 several months ago, the numbers are quite positive in this basic comparison using the two graphics cards on R600g and RadeonSI. Across the board there's nice performance gains with the updated user-space stack, particularly for the AMD GCN graphics hardware supported by the RadeonSI driver. These improvements will be found in Ubuntu 15.04 but if you're a Ubuntu 14.10 user wanting these improvements right now, try out this PPA for updated Mesa and LLVM along with D3D9 Mesa support.
