  • When gnome came out with their HIG, I knew it had been hijacked by a bunch of socialists. This just confirms it. And of course, like all socialists, they ran out of other people's money.

not sure about gnome opw, but two of the kernel opw interns are now paid linux kernel developers:

Have you noticed how strong, independent, self conscious women just do whatever they want and do not care about some feminists agendas?
So feminists are whiny and weak, but have still managed to forcefully take over our entire society and inject their agenda everywhere? How does that work, then?

Talk to the women in your life about how you think feminism is bullshit and see how well they react to that.

Well, I had this talk with both my sister and my mother (I'm 28 btw, if you need some context) about this long time ago and they agree with me, feminism actually hurts women, just like gay parades hurt gay societies (that's for another conversation I suppose).

Feminist play victims which other insecure women can relate to and men who like to be white knights applaud to whole idea. It's no different to religion when stupid crowd needs some explanation to things they don't understand or a promise of salvation if you confess, so you can feel better about banging your best friends wife.

Make no mistake, intelligence is in minority.

            Should be fun

            p.s.
My girlfriend does a full low-bar squat with 127 kg, most guys in the gym don't come even close to this. I'm pretty certain even less guys on this site do

That's great, but without compensation only 1 out of 9 are now actively participating on the kernel, which is pretty meager.

You don't need compensation to participate in F/OSS, which is sort of my point. They are not interested in participating without any compensation like OPW or having a job that requires you to work on it.
Those 2 that are paid to work on the kernel could have just as well gotten a job by Microsoft / Apple / IBM if they wanted to, I doubt they would have continued participating on the kernel in their free time.

I think the GNOME OPW will show similar results, but with less participants getting a job in the technology sector.
Working on the Kernel and working on GNOME apps are two different leagues IMO.

I know, it was so terrible when insecure women played the victim in order to get the vote, which some stupid white knights joined in with.

No, just no, we are past that, in most democratic countries women have the same rights as men (sometimes more, like 2 year paid pregnancy leave - which is great and I support this, just making a point) your argument is invalid.

However social point of view, that's another story. Outreach programs should focus on schools to cover all races, genders and minorities, not just women.

Why the fuck no one even tries to address my point about reaching schools instead of grown ups? You can't change a sexist pig, you can remove it from a project and that's it, however you can teach kids respecting each other.

Aside from things like the pay gap, and endemic discrimination at higher-level positions (look at the representation of women on company boards), and in certain fields (say, software).

Paid paternity leave is equally a right in many countries, and often it's paid parental leave which can be split any way between the partners. Something which I totally support, as paying maternity leave exclusively only further discourages women from the workforce.

                    Nope.

Do you think we need an outreach program for white men? I think they're pretty well represented, which is why the outreach programs focus on bringing the balance to something even vaguely approaching the balance of people in society. You're distorting inclusivity towards your own ends, to reinforce the privilege which already exists. See also: perfect is the enemy of good.

Yes, there is definitely a lot of stupidity in this discussion, but honestly, 'let's not have these discussions because it brings horrible misogynists out; let's just tolerate them and sweep the whole discussion under the rug' is the stupidest thing anyone has written thus far.

Obviously outreach into schools and universities is fantastic and something which should be supported. But it's not something the X.Org Foundation can necessarily help with, and supporting people who want to be involved but perhaps need a helping hand, helps in order to change these perceptions ('hey, there ARE women in software!') from the other direction too. Both are good.

Outreach into schools and universities definitely is already being done. Generally it's for STEM fields at large (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and not specifically computer science.

However, most people do go into college hoping to leave themselves in a good position to get a job afterwards, so i think it's perfectly reasonable to try and attack things from both ends, and the X.Org foundation is clearly involved with their own project and not universities, so it's pretty obvious where they can easily directly affect things themselves.
