LLVM/Clang 3.3 Very Competitive To GCC 4.8

Benchmarks for sharing this weekend are looking at the performance of GCC 4.7, GCC 4.8, LLVM/Clang 3.2, and the latest LLVM/Clang 3.3 development code. How does the performance of the newly released GCC 4.8.0 compare to the yet-to-be-released LLVM/Clang 3.3? It's interesting.

For some new benchmarks to share, GCC 4.7.2 was compared to the recently out GCC 4.8. LLVM/Clang 3.2 was also benchmarked as was LLVM/Clang 3.3 from SVN as of 25 March. Benchmarking happened from an Intel Core i7 990X "Gulftown" Extreme Edition system running Ubuntu 13.04 x86_64 with the Linux 3.8 kernel.

Note: GCC 4.8.0 was built in the same configuration was GCC 4.7.2, but that the information picked up by this table was a bug. All benchmarking was handled via the Phoronix Test Suite software for a variety of C and C++ source-based benchmarks.
