While it takes just a couple seconds for an Intel Core i7 to encode a WAV to MP3 on Linux, with the Intel Atom hardware it took nearly three minutes. However, between the three Ubuntu releases tested there was little difference in the time consumed.

Hardy, Intrepid, and Jaunty were also very close when it came to the Ogg encoding time.

Turning from audio encoding to video encoding, the level of performance remained similar between the different Ubuntu Linux releases.
