There was a huge boost in the Cairo 2D drawing performance with the Intel SNB/Gen6 graphics when going from Ubuntu 11.10 to Ubuntu 12.04 thanks to the advancements made in Mesa 8.0 and the Linux 3.2 kernels. With Mesa 8.1-devel and the Linux 3.4 kernel, the performance is even better! For those not building their key software components from source, these updated components will be found in Ubuntu 12.10 this October. Canonical also plans to back-port their 12.10 graphics stack to an Ubuntu 12.04 LTS point release.

The cairo-perf-trace numbers are also improved for this other Cairo library benchmark.
