Radeon RX Vega On Linux: High-Performance GPUs & Open-Source No Longer An Oxymoron

Here's a look at the system power consumption throughout the span of the entire OpenGL testing process... Made easy by the Phoronix Test Suite with our test automation framework.

The Radeon RX Vega 64 yielded an AC system power draw on average of 322 Watts with a peak of 437 Watts. The Radeon RX Vega yielded an average power draw of 256~270 Watts with a peak of 323~349 Watts. In comparison, the GeForce GTX 1080 had an average power draw of 213 Watts with a peak of 298 Watts while the GeForce GTX 1070 had an average power draw of 189 Watts with a peak of 257 Watts. The minimum (idle) power draw of the Radeon RX Vega hardware was at 72 Watts while the GeForce GTX 1080 series was 52~56 Watts.

And a look at the GPU core temperatures on all of the cards during the OpenGL testing process... Keep in mind the GPU core temperatures can differ a lot depending upon your AIB's cooling solution on the hardware, your case/fan setup, etc. For our system setup, the Radeon RX Vega 64 had an average temp of 75°C with a peak of 90°C while the Radeon RX Vega 56 had an average temp of 71°C with a peak of 87°C.
