Radeon RX Vega On Linux: High-Performance GPUs & Open-Source No Longer An Oxymoron

The Vulkan benchmarks were done using the AMDGPU-PRO 17.30 driver given the RADV issues. As RADV's Vega10 support matures, there will definitely be benchmarks on Phoronix. With this AMDGPU-PRO Vulkan testing, the Radeon RX Vega hardware was better competing relative to the R9 Fury compared to the OpenGL performance. But it does show that more Vega Linux driver optimizations are still warranted.

When running Dota 2 at 4K, the Vega GPUs were slower than the GeForce GTX 980 and all tested Pascal graphics cards.

Dawn of War 3 saw the Radeon RX Vega on Vulkan performing much better than the R9 Fury, but the AMDGPU-PRO Vulkan performance leaves a lot to be desired against NVIDIA with the RX Vega 64 coming in between the GTX 980 and GTX 980 Ti.
