CentOS 5.4 vs. OpenSuSE 11.2 vs. Ubuntu 9.10 Benchmarks

OpenSuSE 11.2 RC1 offered the best performance with the multiple sequence alignment in the MAFFT alignment test profile. It took 19 seconds for OpenSuSE, 29 seconds for Ubuntu 9.10, and 30 seconds for CentOS 5.4.

Continuing with computational biology, the GROMACS MD performance was effectively the same between the three tested Linux distributions.

OpenSuSE 11.2 RC1 scored another win when it came to NASA's NAS Parallel Benchmarks with the EP.B test. OpenSuSE 11.2 RC1 carried 69 Mop/s while Ubuntu 9.10 ended with 53.47 Mop/s and CentOS 5.4 at 50.46 Mop/s.
