R600 Gallium3D Loses To AMD Catalyst Legacy Driver On Windows 8
The R600 Gallium3D driver failed to work for the GiMark test case in GpuTest.
For the OpenGL 3.x tests incorporated in GpuTest, the Windows 8 driver was much faster than what's currently offered by the open-source Radeon R600 Gallium3D driver on the Linux 3.11 kernel.
With GpuTest's Pixmark Piano and Pixmark Volplosion tests, the Radeon Gallium3D driver was much faster than Windows 8. However, when these tests were running on the driver, it was simply a black screen being shown -- incorrect rendering compared to the Windows' Catalyst driver.
While the Radeon Gallium3D driver continues to advance in terms of OpenGL functionality, other features, and performance, it's not yet on parity with the Catalyst Legacy Windows driver as shown by this Radeon HD 4870 graphics card testing.
