R600 Gallium3D Loses To AMD Catalyst Legacy Driver On Windows 8
To reiterate from previous Phoronix comments, on Ubuntu 13.10 it's been tested and found that Unity 7 + Compiz no longer has a huge performance overhead it once did when compared to other desktop environments. Additionally, Ubuntu 13.10 hasn't yet incorporated Mir -- this testing was still from a native X.Org Server environment.
The Linux Radeon Gallium3D driver led with OpenGL frame-rate for Unigine Sanctuary on the Radeon HD 4870 driver, but by default unless setting environment variables the GL rendering is incomplete.
With them ore demanding Unigine Tropics, the Linux Radeon Gallium3D performance fell short of Windows 8 and its still supported Catalyst Legacy driver.
