With the slightly less demanding Unigine Tropics test, there was the same story. The FirePro V3800 did not produce a playable result at 1920 x 1080, the FirePro V5800 performed okay but was slower than the similarly equipped Radeon HD 5770, and there is quite a gap between the V5800 and V8800 ASICs.

To no real surprise, the FirePro V3800 operated at the lowest temperature among the ATI graphics cards we tested. Its average core temperature (as polled through OverDrive via the Phoronix Test Suite) while running the SPECViewPerf 10.0 tests was 46.4°C while the FirePro V5800 had an average temperature of 56.4°C and the V8800 was at 60.2°C. These numbers are much lower than AMD's older workstation graphics cards and slightly less than the Radeon HD 5770.

While the heatsink on the FirePro V3800 is very small, its fan also operated the slowest while still maintaining the lowest temperature. The two-wire fan constantly ran at 15% its rated speed (according to OverDrive) while the V5800 average was 27.2% and the V8800 was at 26.1%.

The GPU usage numbers are not anything surprising.
