Open-Source AMD Radeon Graphics Had A Wonderful 2013
The closed-source GpuTest GL3 benchmark is also a heck of a lot faster with the modern open-source Radeon Linux graphics driver.
These performance improvements shouldn't be too much of a surprise if you've been keeping up with the hundreds of Linux graphics driver articles and news items published on Phoronix in 2013, but overall, the open-source AMD Linux driver is radically much better this year compared to last. Besides much better performance -- where for some Radeon GPUs the OpenGL performance can be almost in line with Catalyst -- there was also the big open-source wins for having Dynamic Power Management and UVD video acceleration arriving in 2013.
What will be in store for the open-source AMD Radeon Linux driver in 2014? Stay tuned to Phoronix to find out!
