When looking at the GPU temperatures while idling for the selection of FirePro workstation graphics processors, the Turks-based V4900 was idling at around 42°C. This was right in line with the other tested V4000 and V5000 FirePro products. The warmest GPU was the FirePro V7900, which was the most powerful and the only tested FirePro graphics card in this review that requires an external 6-pin PCI Express power connector.

The overall system power consumption when idling on the FirePro V4900 was in line with the FirePro V5800/V5900. The V4900 was going through just 3~4 more Watts than the previous-generation V4800.

Maya-02 from SPECViewPerf 10 was run at 1920 x 1080 to exert some GPU load across all of the tested FirePro graphics cards. Under this full-load the V4900 had an average temperature of 67°C, which was 7°C higher than the V4800 and 10°C warmer than the V5900. However, this is still within a safe thermal range. The FirePro V7900 temperature averaged to 70°C.
