16-Way AMD EPYC Cloud Benchmark Comparison: Amazon EC2 vs. SkySilk vs. Packet
With 7-Zip multi-threaded compression, the SkySilk Ultimate instance was 15% faster than the m5a.12xlarge instance while the c2.medium.x86 instance was 16% faster than the fastest SkySilk instance.
Under the Stockfish chess benchmark, the m5a.12xlarge instance did manage to come in line with the Packet EPYC performance.
But in terms of best value should you want to run chess simulations in the cloud, Packet led at $1 per hour followed by the small/medium SkySilk instances.
With the PostgreSQL benchmark, the smaller instances did beat out the Packet c2.medium for offering the best value in this simulated database benchmark.
