16-Way AMD EPYC Cloud Benchmark Comparison: Amazon EC2 vs. SkySilk vs. Packet
Here's also a look at the LLVM build performance on these EPYC instances, given the rising popularity of the cloud for build/compilation farms. The Packet performance was the fastest at 5 minutes while the m5a.large instance took over one hour. The SkySilk ultimate instance narrowly beat out the m5a.12xlarge instance.
The Packet EPYC instance again offered by far the best value over all of the other options tested. It's almost unbelievable that they can get away with offering EPYC 7401P access at $1.00 per hour. SkySilk's many EPYC instance types were right in the middle and did offer better value than the lower-end EC2 M5A instances.
With TTSIOD for representing some CPU-based rendering, the Packet instance was 25% faster than the m5a.12xlarge instance. The EC2 vs. SkySilk performance was competitive between the rest of the tiers.
Packet continued leading with the best value while SkySilk's medium instance came in second for this test.
