Leadwerks Game Engine Now In Beta For Linux
The Leadwerks 3.1 game engine is now in beta for Linux and supports an OpenGL 4.x renderer when paired with the proprietary AMD and NVIDIA graphics drivers.
After a successful crowd-funding campaign earlier in the year, the developers behind this closed-source game engine decided to bring Leadwerks to Linux. Since last month, Leadwerks has started running on Linux and as of Tuesday it's now in a beta state.
The Leadwerks Engine was a 3D game engine originally designed around OpenGL 2.1 and for Windows XP/Visa/7 and supports Newton Game Dynamics, OpenAL / EAX, a deferred renderer, a unified lighting system, and modules/bindings for multiple programming languages.
Leadwerks publicly shared with their 3.1 Linux beta the GL renderer is fine with the OpenGL 4 Linux drivers from NVIDIA and AMD but obviously the open-source Mesa drivers right now are not up to scratch as they only support GL3 and are still actively being developed.
Leadwerks also shared they will be at the Steam Dev Days conference in January to talk more about their Linux gaming ambitions,
More details on the latest Linux state of Leadwerks for Linux can be found via the company's blog post.
