Having raised $42,358 USD this summer of a $20,000 goal on Kickstarter, the Leadwerks Game Engine has been in the process of being ported to Linux. While the Leadwerks Linux port isn't yet ready for game developers, it is making progress and the first 3D rendering was just achieved.

Back in July we wrote about Leadwerks coming to Linux, a 3D game engine using OpenGL with a deferred renderer and its physics are handled by Newton Game Dynamics, OpenAL and EXA for sound, and can handle GPU skinning. The proprietary but low-cost game engine has bindings for many different languages but up to nowhas just been supported on Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Shared as updates on Kickstarter is the current state of the Linux port. The developer working on the port has noted it was very easy setting up OpenGL with an X.Org Server and in the past few days has OpenGL 4.x support working on Linux. Shared today as the latest update was the first 3D rendering working on Linux. At the moment they are hoping they will be able to ship the Leadwerks Linux Beta to their "super backers" (those who contributed $500+ USD to the crowd-sourcing campaign) before the end of the month.
