Good News For John Bridgman Et Al
Phoronix is turning seven years old in two weeks from now, but there's an early gift to the Phoronix community this Friday, in particular a change that John Bridgman of AMD should enjoy.
The infamous "one minute time limit" on the Phoronix Forums has finally been lifted! This quick time limit was imposed quite a while ago as some automated spam-bots were exploiting the post editing to insert their garbage. However, after on-going anti-spam improvements, and this morning after upgrading the forums and rolling out new CAPTCHA and anti-spam measures, this limit has been now extended (circa 30 minutes for now). Hopefully this extended edit limit now won't be exploited and result in forum spam thanks to the other measures now taken.
This should benefit the 42,000+ Phoronix Forums members, but in particular John Bridgman, who is our number one forum poster. John, who leads AMD's open-source strategy and posts on our forums as part of his AMD Linux work, has written over 5,600 posts in less than four years. This trumps even my 5,496 over the course of five years or that of the Phoronix Forums news-posting bot. One of his leading complaints though in the forums has been about the one-minute time limit, especially with his lengthy technical posts he commonly writes, but now this should be an issue of the past.
Enjoy! For any new Phoronix Forums users, if hitting any problems with the new CAPTCHA system or other anti-spam measures, contact us. This is also a good time to remind the readers for those wishing to have an ad-free browsing experience and view entire articles on a single page, subscribe to Phoronix Premium to access these other features.
