Valve's VOGL Is Finally Back To Having New Commits, OS X Support
While Valve's VOGL open-source OpenGL debugger was off to a great start when announced at the start of the year, recently it fell into a bit of a dry period when it didn't see any new work for more than a month. Fortunately, that dry spell is over and there's new commits flowing back into VOGL.
From the middle of October to November wasn't upstream VOGL work and aside from that there hasn't been any exciting breakthroughs to report on publicly. This could be due to a variety of factors from the Valve developers stepping aside to do more pressing work or just working on other projects for good year-end bonuses, already hitting most of the functionality that they need, or even waiting for OpenGL-Next to materialize as a focal point for future development. Fortunately, in the past few days, code is back to flowing in the VOGL Git repository.
Dair Grant landed most of the recent work which focuses on delivering OS X support for VOGL. While I haven't yet tried VOGL on OS X personally, the latest code adds Darwin to the cmake build system, implements the various OS X functions, adds basic CGL support, etc. The build instructions say the Mac port isn't yet functional but hopefully that will change soon.
Another developer, Peter Lohrmann, formerly of Valve, has also been working on VOGL in recent days.
The VOGL development activity can be tracked via its GitHub.
