Wine 1.7.16 was released this afternoon as the latest Wine development release.

Per the official release information, the major Wine 1.7.16 changes include:

- More regression test fixes.
- String arrays better supported in the IDL compiler.
- Initial stubs for DirectX Video Acceleration.
- Various bug fixes.

Wine 1.7.16 packs in 50 known bug-fixes. Of the official changes, the main thing to catch our attention were Wine developers starting work on Microsoft DirectX Video Acceleration (DxVA) support. Right now their DirectX Video Acceleration comes down to just stubbed functions but will be interesting to see how they implement it and whether it can be mapped and translated to VA-API/VDPAU.

Unfortunately there's still no support yet for the faster Wine gaming performance via the D3D command stream improvements.
