AMD Radeon R9 290 Released At $399 Price Point

Just a few weeks after releasing the AMD Radeon R9 290X ultra high-end Hawaii graphics card, AMD today unveiled the R9 290. The R9 290 is one step below the 290X but will only set you back $399 USD.

The AMD Radeon R9 290 features 2560 stream processors, up to a 947MHz engine clock, 4GB of GDDR5 video memory, up to a 5.0Gbps memory clock speed, 320GB/s maximum memory bandwidth, 4.85 TFLOPS single-precision compute power, and supports OpenGL 4.3 along with Mantle and DirectX 11.2. The Radeon R9 290 is shipping immediately for a $399 MSRP.

As with the original R9 290X launch, there's plenty of Microsoft Windows data available this morning but we have no idea how the Linux support for the Radeon R9 290 as AMD still isn't cooperating with Linux hardware review samples for their recent GPU launches. The recently released AMD Catalyst 13.11 Beta update for Linux added support for the R9 290X and likely supports the R9 290 too, otherwise a driver update should be imminent.
