EdgeBSD Born Out Of NetBSD Operating System
EdgeBSD is a new BSD operating system this year born out of the NetBSD code-base. The project doesn't call itself a fork of NetBSD but it aims to push features and changes faster than the veteran BSD operating system.
EdgeBSD is intended to be a staging area for NetBSD, but it may end up taking a different direction from upstream NetBSD. EdgeBSD also switches from using CVS to Git as its revision control system and also aims to be more open and easier to commit to than NetBSD and its more strict handling of contributions. EdgeBSD does intend to pass some of its patches back onto upstream NetBSD for possible inclusion.
EdgeBSD aims for "More research, more development" and will also track NetBSD upstream changes while enabling more features and functionality. For those interested in more details on EdgeBSD, there's PDF slides of EdgeBSD from its presentation at the Free Open-Source Developers' European Meeting (FOSDEM 2014). The operating system is operating at EdgeBSD.org.
