A proposal has been voiced for improving the boot experience of Fedora Linux.

Matthias Clasen sparked a new mailing list thread on Monday amongst Fedora developers to improve the Fedora boot experience.

The key changes right now that Clasen proposes for Fedora 19 are turning off the graphical GRUB screen by default, switching to a simple spinner for the Plymouth boot splash screen, and replacing the small print logo on the log-in screen with a larger version.

Matthias says that if they decide to not turn off the graphical GRUB screen there should at least be a clean-looking boot menu. The new Fedora Plymouth splash screen would be a fairly simple spinner to indicate the system is loading while somewhere else the Fedora logo would be displayed.

So far in the many responses to the mailing list thread, the talk amongst Fedora developers to "improve the Fedora boot experience" are about what key(s) should be used for displaying a GRUB menu screen... There's also some feeling that much time shouldn't be spent to polishing the boot experience but rather to just make Fedora boot as fast as possible so the experience is irrelevant.
