Quad-Core ODROID-X Tested Against PlayStation 3
Here are some more benchmarks of the ODROID-X, a $129 ARMv7 development board that packs four Cortex-A9 cores along with Mali-400 graphics to provide a fairly impressive punch. There's even some comparative numbers to a Sony PlayStation 3 running Linux.
Thanks to the ease of use of the Phoronix Test Suite for running tests in a fully automated and reproducible manner while allowing for collaboration and easy sharing of results via the OpenBenchmarking.org platform, Kurt Keville of Massachusetts Institute of Technology uploaded some more test results from the quad-core ODROID-X that is still shipping out of Korea in limited quantities.
From earlier this week on Phoronix were ODROID-X benchmarks against the NVIDIA Tegra 3 that showed quite a battle brewing. In the latest results, there's numbers comparing the ODROID-X to a dual-core ARMv7 1.2GHz Origen development board. Like the ODROID-X, both operating systems here are running Linaro 12.08 (derived from Ubuntu) with the same GCC 4.7 compiler. This is a fairly straight forward comparison and the results can be found via the 1208231-AR-1208150AR20 result file. If you're interested in seeing how your x86 or ARM system stacks up against the Origen and ODROID-X numbers, it's simply a matter of running phoronix-test-suite benchmark 1208231-AR-1208150AR20 to facilitate a fully automated comparison from test installation to execution.
Someone else within the Phoronix community has already decided to run the same set of tests on a Sony PlayStation 3, except there for the PowerPC64 platform it's running Yellow Dog Linux 6.2 with an older kernel and compiler. However, if those numbers interest you, it's found here on OpenBenchmarking.org. The PlayStation 3 Linux performance can be compared using phoronix-test-suite benchmark 1208220-TOGU-120815070.
