XGI Technology was founded in June of 2003 after a merger of the graphics divisions from Trident Microsystems and Silicon Integrated Systems, however, since their creation they haven't managed to make much of an impact on the graphics processing industry compared to ATI and NVIDIA, but are the times now changing? Last week we brought news from an interview with XGI's Business Development manager (Jeryuan Yan) that on November 9 they would finally launch their 8300 series GPUs. The Volari 8300 is the first PCI Express product conceived from the engineers at XGI, but rumors have been floating around the Internet for over a year as to its level of performance and features. With the NDA now lifted on the XGI Volari 8300 (XG47), due to the public launch of this graphics card today in Beijing, we have a wealth of information to share as to the true level of performance of this card as well as other technical details. To begin, we have the complete specifications for the XGI Volari 8300 (XG47) including the display interface, video support, and power management capabilities. It is interesting to note some of the features such as HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital-Content Protection). In addition, XGI engineers have embedded an on-die thermal sensor for monitoring the GPU temperature as well as utilizing some power management features - dynamic core power rail control, dynamic engine clock control, and dynamic memory clock control.
