AMD Radeon GPUs Run Great With Linux 3.11 Kernel, Mesa 9.3-devel

While the Linux 3.11 kernel hasn't even been officially released yet, on Phoronix we have already published a number of Radeon DPM benchmarks, the new dynamic power management code coming to the open-source driver. Early Phoronix tests of Radeon DPM have yielded performance improvements and great improvements for power/thermal use. In this article are new Linux 3.11 + Mesa Git benchmarks from a variety of AMD/ATI Radeon graphics cards.

As our latest testing of the Linux 3.11 development kernel plus Mesa 9.3-devel Git as of last week, there are new benchmarks with Radeon dynamic power management enabled on Ubuntu Linux when running OpenGL performance benchmarks of several different GPUs. The tested hardware this time around includes the Radeon HD 4670, HD 4830, HD 4870, HD 6450, HD 6570, HD 6770, HD 6870, HD 6950, and also the A10-6800K Radeon HD 8670D Richland APU graphics.

All of this benchmarking was handled in an automated manner using the open-source Phoronix Test Suite benchmarking framework. Also handled was performance-per-Watt and system power consumption monitoring, which is handled automatically via the Phoronix Test Suite with the MONITOR=all and PERFORMANCE_PER_WATT=1 environment variables.
