It was only a few years ago when tape and zip drives were the popular external storage solutions but now they are simply not commonplace. Although many tape drives offered large capacities they were and still continue to be very expensive, selling for over $300 for a 40GB compressed capacity. Although zip drives offered capacities significantly greater than that of floppy drives, the unit and zip disks were rather slow and expensive. Luckily, this isn't the same for current external storage solutions. Under our microscope today, we have the Bytecc 2.5" USB2.0 aluminum external enclosure (HD-201U2).

Features:

Aluminum external enclosure will cool down 2.5" HDD easily
Allows device hot-swapping (Plug and Play)
 Support HDD up to 80GB

Generally when we examine external enclosures we merely see an enclosure included and very little else included; even with retail versions. Not only do we see the actual enclosure packaged but also a CD, containing the necessary drivers and user's manual, anti-shock patch, USB power/data cable, and leather wallet. The anti-shock patch, which is heat resistant up to 90C, reduces the shock transferred to the hard drive in the event of dropping the device or jarring it.

With Bytecc including the very beneficial accessory of a leather wallet to house the HD-201U2, it is now even easier to transport your external storage device. After opening the wallet there is room on the left side for storing business cards or any other small items. While on the right hand side is room for the 2.5" HDD aluminum external enclosure along with room for storing the USB cable. When examining this leather wallet, it was apparent Bytecc simply didn't slap this accessory together. At the bottom of the compartment for storing the enclosure, there is a cut out which allows the device to be connected even when stored away in the comforts of the wallet. At the top of the wallet are elastic straps to keep the cord and enclosure secure. This is a very welcomed accessory to a 2.5" external enclosure, especially if the device will be going to and from the office on a daily basis.
