6-Disk ZFS On Linux RAID Server Benchmarks

With the recent big update to ZFS On Linux I've begun running some new ZFS Linux file-system tests. Today are just some preliminary numbers from running ZOL 0.6.4 with various RAID levels across six 300GB H106030SDSUN300G 10K RPM SAS drives.


This is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of new ZFS On Linux tests, with today just being some initial numbers while burning in the massive new server from a PTS customer. The new ZOL tests are being done from this 16-core server comprised of dual Intel Xeon E5540 processors, 36GB of RAM, two 147 Seagate SAS drives, and six 300GB SAS drives (H106030SDSUN300G).


The server was running Ubuntu 15.04 x86_64 with the Linux 4.0.0 and running the new release of ZOL.


The stock mount options were tested while running the default mirror mode across the six 10K SAS drives and then trying RAIDZ, RAIDZ1, and RAIDZ2. All drives were wiped and freshly re-configured between each round of benchmarking.

Those are the initial numbers that for the tests that worked well across this ZFS On Linux RAIDZ array... More numbers from different configurations are forthcoming; if there's any specific requests or advice on the ZOL tuning parameters, etc, feel free to post away in the forums. I'll also be working on updated Btrfs RAID benchmarking from this server.
