While Canonical remains committed to Mir as the future display server technology for Ubuntu Linux both on the desktop and for mobile devices, the upcoming Ubuntu 15.04 release does have the latest Wayland/Weston 1.7 support too.

Wayland 1.7 was released last week and now Ubuntu packagers have landed Wayland 1.7.0 along with Weston 1.7.0 inside the Ubuntu "Vivid Vervet" repository in time for the Ubuntu 15.04 feature freeze.

The Ubuntu Wayland packages are synced from Git and shared with Debian's upstream packages. Right now they're just in the vivid-proposed archive but will make it into vivid for those wishing to install the latest stable versions of Wayland/Weston on their Ubuntu 15.04 installation when experimenting with non-Unity desktop environments.

Timo Aaltonen is responsible for the packaging changes with weston 1.7.0-0ubuntu1 and wayland 1.7.0-0ubuntu1.
