Upcoming Linux Tests With A $300 Broadwell-EP Xeon CPU
Unfortunately Intel Corp hadn't sent over any Broadwell-EP hardware earlier this year when launching these new Xeon E5-2600 V5 server processors nor when it came to the high-end consumer Broadwell-E processors. However, I ended up buying a Xeon E5-2609 v4 Broadwell-EP this week for a new system and will be running a variety of upcoming tests.
The Xeon E5-2609 v4 is a Broadwell-EP that should be pretty decent for just around $300 USD. The Xeon E5-2609 v4 is an eight-core processor with 1.7GHz clock frequency and 20MB Smart Cache. I ended up buying the E5-2609 v4 after the kind, Linux-friendly folks at MSI sent over their new MSI X99A WORKSTATION motherboard and some extra DDR4 RAM, thus commissioning a new Linux/BSD benchmarking system in our basement server room.
I will have a review on the MSI X99A WORKSTATION compared to other X99 boards in a week or two, of course, under Linux. I'll also be working on the Xeon E5-2609 V4 Linux review/benchmarks compared to my other available LGA-2011 v3 CPUs and other fun processors. With this Broadwell-EP system I'll also be running a fresh BSD/Linux operating system comparison too in the weeks ahead.
