UBUNTU --
Today marks the second alpha release for Ubuntu 16.10 "Yakkety Yak" flavors participating in these early development releases.

Participating in today's Yakkety Yak Alpha 2 development milestone are Lubuntu, Ubuntu MATE, and Ubuntu Kylin. No Xubuntu or Kubuntu releases to report on this morning.

Lubuntu 16.10 continues using LXDE while LXQt is "still in development."

Ubuntu MATE 16.10 Alpha 2 has added the MATE Heads-Up Display (HUD) for offering an experience similar to Unity 7's menu-bar HUD. Ubuntu MATE has also upgraded some components like MATE Tweak, MATE Dock Applet, and Ubuntu MATE Welcome.

More details on the just-released 16.10 Alpha 2 builds can be found via this mailing list post. Ubuntu 16.10 will be officially released come mid-October.
