AMD's Nicolai Hähnle has published his revised set of 25 patches for implementing OpenGL sparse buffer support within the RadeonSI driver.

ARB_sparse_buffer is one of the newer OpenGL extensions. Nicolai has been working on this sparse-buffer support for Gallium3D/RadeonSI for some time. See this article from February for more details on the implementation and extension.

Hitting the mailing list today were the v2 patches. He commented, "here's a v2 of the series, motivated by providing an open user of the new kernel APIs for PRT / sparse buffers/textures."

The sparse buffer support is for Sea Islands GPUs and newer. These patches also depend upon some kernel DRM driver changes that have yet to be mainlined.
