NVIDIA's Latest Open-Source Tegra Work Focuses On VIC Support

The latest work that NVIDIA's been working on for the open-source Nouveau driver is to enable VIC support.

VIC is short for Video Image Compositor and is an engine on Tegra K1's GK20A GPU and later that can be used for handling 2D operations. VIC replaces the gr2d engine from older Tegra GPUs and can be used for simple surface copy and fill operations.

Today NVIDIA developers posted their v2 patches for the VIC support on Tegra K1 and newer. This Video Image Compositor support doesn't affect Nouveau on desktop GPUs.
