VULKAN
An ambitious developer has begun a project to rewrite Minecraft's Java-based OpenGL renderer and in its place use a Vulkan renderer.

The Nova Renderer is an active open-source mod for Minecraft that's attempting to rewrite the game's Java OpenGL 2.1 renderer with a Vulkan-based approach. This Vulkan renderer under the "Nova Renderer" project is written in C++ rather than Java.

This Vulkan-based renderer for Minecraft hopes to be very performant and offer more features than the current renderer.

While still very early in development, you can learn more about this Vulkan renderer for Minecraft via nova-renderer on GitHub. Hopefully we'll continue seeing more independent open-source projects working to re-implement popular OpenGL game titles and engines under Vulkan.
