While an official announcement has yet to be issued by the Debian technical committee, yesterday's Debian init system vote started by Bdale Garbee has come out in favor of systemd.

Systemd is the favorite of the technical committee members aside from Canonical's Steve Langasek that is still pushing for Upstart. Assuming this vote holds, systemd is the winner although Bdale has yet to issue an official statement today and Steve is trying to push for a new ballot.

Plenty more systemd init system commentary can be found in this forum thread.
