Linus Torvalds has taken a break from the holidays to announce the seventh weekly release candidate for the Linux 4.4 kernel.

To no real surprise considering Christmas was this past week, activity for 4.4-rc7 was rather light. Linus noted with today's release, "Ok, clearly there _is_ some rest for kernel developers, because rc7 is pretty tiny. I think a third of the patch is from the sparc updates, and those weren't that big either."

He mentioned in the release announcement that Linux 4.4 would probably be ready to ship next weekend, but considering New Year's, he's looking at doing Linux 4.4-rc8 next week to avoid doing the official release over the holidays.
