GNOME --
As a Christmas present for GNOME users, Richard Hughes has shared the work going on with the GNOME Software app center and with the XDG-App sandboxing tech.

Just last week was another GNOME developer talking about the latest with XDG-App for sandboxing applications. Richard's post today is about using GNOME Software with XDG-App to now support live updates of applications and runtimes.

This live application/runtime updating is currently in a prototyped form but is working out so far in their trials. More details via this blog post.
