DEBIAN --
While Debian has preferred the Libav fork of FFmpeg, after reviewing the situation, the Debian Multimedia Maintainers team has decided to switch back to FFmpeg.

The switch back to FFmpeg is being done for security considerations, bug handling, feature differences, upstream contributors, and the choice made by other distributions. The topic of FFmpeg vs. Libav has been extensively debated for months.

The announcement of FFmpeg's return to Debian as the libav provider can be found via this mailing list announcement.
